As part of the series of diverse training courses organized by the Qatar Olympic Academy through its academic agenda for the current year, the academy successfully concluded the "Sports Injuries" course, which was held over five days from February 16th to 20th.
This course witnessed broad and diverse participation from learners representing various sports, administrative, and technical disciplines, with over 20 male and female participants from within Qatar and abroad.
The "Sports Injuries" course is the third in the Qatar Olympic Academy’s agenda for this year, coming as part of a series of training programs aimed at developing sports, administrative, and technical competencies in the field of sports.
Course Lecturer:
The course lectures were delivered by Dr. Wassam Al-Dhahabi, a specialist in movement science and physical rehabilitation at the Police College, who possesses extensive academic and field experience in sports injuries and sports rehabilitation. Dr. Al-Dhahabi discussed various topics and aspects with the participants, in addition to conducting practical applications during the course. He also engaged with the learners, sharing their experiences in this field, as most participants were athletes and coaches with diverse experiences.

Sports Injuries: Causes and Types
This topic discussed common types of sports injuries, such as sprains, fractures, and muscle injuries, as well as the main causes behind them. Emphasis was placed on the importance of coaches and athletes understanding sports injuries and how to handle them to ensure player safety.
Strategies for Injury Prevention
The focus here was on the importance of prevention as a fundamental part of the training process. Scientific and practical strategies were presented to reduce the chances of injuries, including warm-up and cool-down exercises, improving physical fitness, and using modern training techniques.
Injury Assessment, Immediate Care, and Recovery Factors
Participants learned how to assess injuries quickly and effectively and provide necessary first aid. Factors that accelerate the healing process, such as proper nutrition, rest, and physical therapy, were also discussed.
Psychological Complications of Injuries and the Importance of Psychological Factors in Treatment
This topic addressed the psychological aspect of sports injuries, discussing how injuries affect athletes’ mental states and how psychological factors can play a pivotal role in the treatment and recovery process.
Rehabilitation and Return to Play
Practical plans were presented for rehabilitating athletes after injuries, with a focus on ensuring their safe return to the field without setbacks.
Al-Dhahabi: These Courses Contribute Significantly to Sports Development
For his part, Dr. Wassam Al-Dhahabi, the course lecturer, praised the efforts of the academy in organizing such courses, stating: "The Qatar Olympic Academy is one of the leading educational institutions in developing sports, professional, technical, and educational cadres at the local and regional levels. It significantly contributes to enhancing sports culture in all its aspects within society through the series of courses and programs it organizes."
He added: "Organizing such specialized courses greatly increases awareness of the importance of preventing sports injuries and how to deal with them, which positively reflects on athletes’ performance and safety. These courses also contribute to building a generation of coaches, athletes, and specialists capable of achieving significant accomplishments at local, regional, and international levels."
