The Qatar Olympic Academy concluded last Thursday the activities of the sixth semester (Management of Major Sports Events) of the twelfth edition of the Diploma of Management of Olympic Sports Institutions (ASMC) program, organized by the Qatar Olympic Academy with the accreditation of the International Olympic Committee, which lasted for three days from 13 to 15 September, with the participation of 23 students representing various sports institutions, including students from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

The sixth semester lectures were given by Professor Holga Bruce, Lecturer at the University of Gothenburg, Germany, accredited by the International Olympic Committee. The closing day of the Grand Sports Events Department included a discussion on Qatar's hosting of the 2022 World Cup, in terms of mission and strategy.

The second theme included the introduction of new ideas for the preparation and organization of a major international sporting event that will be part of the overall strategy of the sports institution, meet the strategic objectives of the Olympic Sports Foundation, be aware of the objectives that can be achieved and highlight the risks involved in the organization process. While the interaction of the participants with the lecturer was excellent in terms of discussions, interventions and positive presentation.

The lecture of the second day included several axes in the organization of the management of major sporting events, in which the lecturer touched on the importance of organizing the sports event and the need to make the decision on the organization of the event or not to organize it, the benefits and risks involved in the organization of the sports event, and the main stages that go into the management of the event. He also reviewed the appropriate legal and practical framework for it and identified the human resources needed to organize the event, and then took an illustrative example of volunteer recruitment as a necessary issue for most juveniles.

Professor Holger dedicated a number of his books to the Qatar Olympic Academy Library related to the Olympic movement, the genesis of the Summer Olympics and Olympic values, where he said it was a wonderful library and I am happy to display my work there.

In conclusion, Dr. Ali Al-Bakri, Head of the Sports Development Department at the Academy and Director of the Diploma Program, thanked the lecturer and participants in the program on behalf of Mr. Saif Al-Nuaimi, Executive Director of the Academy, and then presented the certificate of thanks and appreciation to Professor Holga, and took commemorative photos, thanking all those who contributed to the success of the program, welcoming the Gulf and Qatari participation, praising the ideas, discussions and presentations they presented, and stressing the importance of making real and applied use of the important axes included in the Diploma Program in Institutional Management. Olympic sports, and should take the opportunity to develop their abilities and expertise to translate these programs and turn them into visual works on the ground.
